Under the Energy Performance and Building Directive (EPBD) all commercial buildings, new and existing, will be assessed for their efficiency and energy consumption. Every building will be awarded an energy efficiency rating and certificate.
Why are Energy Performance Certificates being introduced?
Implementation of the Energy Performance Certificates along with ongoing changes in environmental business policies and ever increasing fuel costs will start to effect investor and occupier decisions when it comes to property. The intention of the Energy Performance legislation is to impact upon rental and property values in favour of energy efficient buildings, thereby encouraging the use and development of energy efficient buildings to achieve higher investment returns.
